Expert talks for busy researchers
Interactive online science communication sessions for researchers. Short, practical, and focused, with useful insight sand tools that can be put into practice right away.
Building science communication skills in 2 hours
Universities and research institutes are under increasing pressure to help scientists develop new communication skills.
From core presentation and visual communication to emerging areas such as AI-enhanced science storytelling and futures-focused communication, researchers want (and, arguably, need) to build skills to share their work.
At the same time, researchers are time-poor and need learning that fits into packed schedules. That’s where our expert talks come in.
About our Expert Talks
Delivered by Suzanne Whitby, founder of SciComm Success, these focused 2-hour sessions draw on more than 20 years of communication experience and 13 years working directly in science communication, with researchers in academia and industry.
Each online talk is interactive yet compact, offering practical frameworks, examples, and tools that participants can apply immediately.
Talks include:
- Support for organisers in planning and managing communication with participants, before and after the talk (as needed)
- Tailoring with suitable examples and exercises
- Interactive elements: exercises (indiviual and group, where relevant), prompts, quizzes, and discussions. We like to keep things “low tech” to ensure accessibility, but we can incorporate tools like Mentimeter, Mural/Miro (online whiteboards), shared documents and more.
- Post-session resources
Popular Topics

At the moment, we offer:
- Designing slides and visuals for scientific presentations
- Poster Design 101
- Delivering presentations with impact
- Storytelling structures and narrative techniques for science communication
- Science communication in an age of AI
- A futures lens for science communication

Interested in planning an expert talk?
Whether you’re thinking of a single talk, or a series of talks that offer researchers regular opportunities for bite-sized learning throughout the year, we’d love to help.
Get in touch and tell us what you’re thinking. We can offer input, ideas, and a no-obligation quote.
Who we’ve helped
We’ve worked with universities, research groups, R&D departments, science organisations, projects, and research-led initiatives in Europe, Africa and the USA, with participants from across the globe.
What people say
Participants, training organisers and partner organisations have had some good things to say about us over the years.
The best workshop I've been to. So practical, with really useful results.
We’ve collected so much valuable data from this workshop and I feel so motivated to refine our strategy and engage our partners in the process. From our initial discussions, to the clear design process, to the workshop and all the reports, this has been exactly what we needed,

I was able to use a storytelling structure to make my proposal clearer
I put what I learned into practice and received feedback that my ideas were clear and easy to understand, thanks to my use of the structures Suzanne taught.

I've learned new presentation skills that I can really use in my scientific presentations
Thank you Suzanne for such a practical workshop on scientific presentation skills. Even thought we were all from different disciplines and organisations, it was all useful. I wasn’t expecting much because usually people just show slides. The discussions, the Q&A sessions, the peer reviews, and your input were a breath of fresh air.
