One-Day Research Communication Intensive

Transform presentation confidence in a single intensive day

Our One-Day Research Communication Intensive is a high-impact, practice-based programme designed for fellowships, doctoral intensives, project meetings, conferences, and research retreats.

Researchers work in focused cohorts to develop presentation skills, refine poster design, and learn how to deliver authentically and with impact, moving from draft to confident presentation in a single day. The day culminates in an applied science communication event to put skills into practice and receive feedback.

Designed for research institutions, EU projects, fellowship programmes, and graduate schools across Europe.

* Although not required, this programme works particularly well for groups with a mix of disciplines, as this allows for insightful perspectives and valuable “non-expert” input.

What participants gain

After a One-Day Research Communication Intensive, researchers can:

  • Present their research clearly and confidently to non-specialist audiences
  • Design effective research posters using visual communication principles
  • Structure short presentations with a clear central message
  • Use voice, body language, and pacing effectively
  • Give and receive constructive peer feedback
  • Apply these skills immediately after the session in academic and public contexts

And research organisations benefit too: a focused, efficient training solution that integrates seamlessly into existing events, builds transferable communication capacity, and delivers visible outcomes in a single day.

What makes this intensive different

This is not a lecture about communication techniques.
The One-Day Intensive is built around immediate application, peer feedback, and real practice.

Participants work on their own research throughout the day, developing poster drafts in the morning, refining presentations through peer review, and applying skills in a simulated poster session by afternoon.

The programme is designed to complement fellowships, project meetings, and doctoral intensives, adding high-value communication training without requiring a week-long commitment.

It’s an efficient, practice-based approach that delivers tangible outcomes in a focused timeframe.

Recent case study

“la Caixa” Foundation Fellowship Week | Girona, Spain | 2026

60 researchers from universities and research organisations across Spain and Portugal participated in a One-Day Research Communication  Intensive combining presentation skills, poster design, and delivery practice. The programme concluded with a simulated poster session where participants presented refined drafts and received immediate peer feedback.

Participant feedcback:

“This was an incredibly valuable experience. As an economics researcher with no experience of presenting my work in posters and in flash talks, I had the opportunity to try both, and get feedback from colleagues from many different disciplines. A useful and relevant day.”

“I know that we are always told to think about the audience, but today was the first time that I experienced just how many assumptions about knowledge that I make – incorrectly. I will adjust how I talk about my work as a result.”

“Thank you for an incredible day! It was tiring, but I feel as if I have had a weeks’ worth of learning in 8 hours, and it’s been so hands-on. Not a moment of death-by-PowerPoint. This was valuable.”
